Due to lack of interest in my destop projects (PlainHTML, ShutDownerXP, and newly, WE editor), i decided to shut down all activity regarding desktop projects, this time for good.
In the meantime, i've found my code editor of choice, in the great Eclipse editor, so this is another reason not to develop "yet another web editor". Many third-party components used in my projects are too much buggy, to continue development, some of them outdated, and i don't have time to fix them all. It's a waste of my time, and it will lead to nothing. I'm committing my time to PHP development from this time forward.
The BWS project will be cut down to a minimum, and the forum section will be shut down. I will archive the site, and remove pretty much everything not related to PHP development and web design.
I am introducing a new feature: Logging in with GMail account credentials.
I believe, this will be a good idea, since it won't require to register on the BWS site.
I began to upload some new kind of stuff, widening the content scope of this site. When new information is too valuable to be collected by different content bots, i will put them behind authentication.
User accounts created for the forum are member accounts, thus enabling for you to see these internal articles.
There is a new template available on BWS: Silver Plating
This is a new template for larger sites, portals, community sites, galleries, etc.
Old web templates were dropped, because they are out-of-date did not comply with today's standards, and many more reasons.
Those templates will not be available anymore.
Well, we've got it! Joomla! 1.6 just came out. It's shiny, with new features, supports multilanguage sites and a few of it's good third-party components are already updated for it, such as Kunena Forum (which i like and use). J! 1.5 templates ar working with a tiny editing in the templateDetails XML file.
That's OK!
But!
I'm working for several Romanian clients and one of them has a simple site which needs to be updated, and Joomla! 1.6 seemed to be the best choice for the task. So, quickly, i moved on, installed J! 1.6 and started to download the other things needed and available for it. I downloaded several extensions and started to install them.
Then, my client said, that the site will be needed to be run in 4 languages: Hungarian as default language, German, English and Romanian. _THAT LAST ONE_ was the problem!
I've found the other two languages (Hungarian and the DE-CH-AT german language packs already were available), and the English one came with the installation. When I went for the Romanian language Pack, i've found nothing, only a two-months old forum post on the Joomla Romania site, where they had still promising the translation for the RC1
!
I've couldn't wait for them, so got my Unicode editor and began the translation from scratch. After four hours somewhat a translation has been completed in 90 percent for the frontend (some descriptive information has been left in English) and was ready to use.
I'm wondering, why these people are lagging behind with this. The article about the release of Joomla! 1.6 has been on their site from the first day.
So, while you're waiting for the official Romanian language pack, you still can run your Joomla! 1.6 in Romanian.
You can download my makeshift language pack here (please bear in mind, that it's informal)
Update:
Joomla! Romanian has releasd their own frontend translation.
